Scarborough May 2019
Spring Break 2019 at the Cumberland Hotel Scarborough
This spring 29 members met at the Cumberland Hotel Scarborough for a series of walks around the coastal areas and inland to the North York Moors.
Hotel: As per previous weekends away we stayed at a Leasureplex hotel which again proved to be a very good choice and value for money. The hotel was very close to the town centre and a couple of hundred metres away from the main promenade. Rooms were comfortable and well presented. Food followed the usual Leasureplex line with good choices and timely service. The staff were well presented and found to be extremely helpful.
Walks: Walks were offered on 4 days leaving the final day for individual activities.
Walk 1: Initially a 6.5 mile circular route from the hotel, however due to the windy conditions this walk was curtailed to 4 miles. Map of Walk 1 is here.
Walk 2A (8.3mls) & 2B (11.5mls): Starting from Ravenscar these two walks followed the Cleveland Way north to Robin Hood’s Bay and returned via the Cinder Track. Walk 2B extended the route to capture a southern section of the Cleveland Way south of Ravenscar. Walk 2A is here and Walk 2B is here.
Walk 3A (8.0mls) and Walk 3B (10.5mls): Both walks started from the village of Lockton and took in the Hole of Horcum, with Walk 3B extending the loop out to Bridestones. Walk 3A is here and walk 3B is here.
Walk 4A (8.5mls): This walk started from the hotel and followed the Cleveland Way south to Filey with a bus return journey. Walk 4A route is here.
Walk 4B (9.5mls): This circular walk was not held, however the route can be found here.
